Our General Practice Nurses (GPNs) are registered nurses who work autonomously within the primary care team to provide expert, hands-on care for patients of all ages. They are a vital part of your GP surgery, supporting you with both clinical care and health promotion.
Many of our GPNs are supported through the Staffordshire GPN Foundation School, a programme that trains and guides nurses through their first year in general practice.
What They Do
GPNs can:
- Provide hands-on nursing care, including wound care, immunisations, vaccinations, and cervical screening
- Care for patients of all ages, from babies and children to adults and older patients
- Hold clinics for patients with long-term conditions such as asthma, heart disease, and diabetes
- Offer health promotion and advice on contraception, weight management, smoking cessation, and overall wellbeing
- Support men’s and women’s health, helping you stay healthy through education, screening, and preventative care
How It Works
- You can see a GPN for routine appointments, long-term condition reviews, vaccinations, or health advice
- GPNs work closely with GPs and other members of the primary care team, ensuring your care is coordinated and personalised
- They provide both treatment and guidance, helping you manage your health and make informed choices
